Beginner’s Guide to Choosing the Right Color for Your New Roof

February 20, 2020

Are you in the process of choosing the right color for your new roof? Don’t let it send you into a tailspin. Choosing colors for your house can seem daunting, but we have some tips that can help you get through it and end up with great results. Check out our beginner’s guide to choosing the right roof color.

#1: What Color is Your House?

One of the biggest factors in roof color is the color of your house. Whether you have siding, stone, stucco, or wood, the exterior color should help dictate the roof color. House colors in the blue, gray, yellow, or white families look great with black roof shingles. If your home is brick, you can play off the warm color with black or brown roof materials. And natural siding like wood or stone, or earth-toned paint or siding coordinate well with brown shingles. And red tile roofs look great with stucco in almost any color.

#2: Consider the Climate

Why consider the climate with your roof color choice? Because a dark roof means a hotter roof. If you live in the south, you might want to consider a cool roof color. The lighter the color of your roof, the more solar reflective it will be. This means your home will stay cooler, and you’ll use less energy on your AC in the hot summer months.
